Garmin devices use strokes gained to measure performance in different areas of the game, such as drives, approach, chip, putt and even bunker shots. It’s also used to measure how well you’re trending in each of these areas over time. Strokes gained is a way of measuring how well each shot was relative to how a PGA player would have done from that distance and that lie on average. Since most people don’t compete at the same level as PGA players, we also compare your strokes gained values with golfers that have a similar handicap to yours.
